Genesis chapter 21. God blesses Abraham and Sarah and she becomes pregnant and gives birth to Isaac (Yitzchak). As Isaac grew up Sarah worried about the bad influence of Ishmael (Yishmael) Hagar's son with Abraham. Sarah tells Abraham to expel Hagar and Ishmael. God tells Abraham to listen to Sarah. Hagar and Ishmael are exiled but God promises that Ishmael will become a great nation. Avimelech makes a treaty with Abraham at Beer Sheba (Be'er Sheva) that there should be peace between them.

Genesis chapter 16. Abram and Sarai are childless so Sarai says that Abram should marry Hagar the Egyptian to have children with her. Hagar becomes pregnant and looks down on Sarai. Hagar miscarries and flees Sarai's anger. Hagar is told she will have a son Yishmael who is born to Abram and Hagar, and they name him Yishmael.
