Genesis chapter 21. God blesses Abraham and Sarah and she becomes pregnant and gives birth to Isaac (Yitzchak). As Isaac grew up Sarah worried about the bad influence of Ishmael (Yishmael) Hagar's son with Abraham. Sarah tells Abraham to expel Hagar and Ishmael. God tells Abraham to listen to Sarah. Hagar and Ishmael are exiled but God promises that Ishmael will become a great nation. Avimelech makes a treaty with Abraham at Beer Sheba (Be'er Sheva) that there should be peace between them.

Genesis chapter 20. Abraham and Sarah move to Gerar, away from Lot and Sodom. They are confronted by the local king Avimelech and tell him that Sarah is Abraham's sister. Avimelech takes Sarah wanting to marry her, but God warns him not to touch her because she is Abraham's wife. Avimelech complains and God forgives him as Sarah returned to Abraham.

Genesis chapter 18. Abraham is visited by three guests who are angels who have come to heal him from his circumcision, announce the birth of his son Isaac (Yitzchak), and to destroy Sodom. Abraham and Sarah host the angels lavishly. God tells Abraham that he intends to destroy Sodom because of its wickedness. Abraham pleads on behalf of Sodom, but not even ten righteous people are to be found in Sodom.

Genesis chapter 17. God tells Abram to circumcise himself and the males in his household. God tells Abram that he will now be called Abraham, and that Sarai shall be called Sarah. Circumcision is an eternal covenant (Brit) between God and Abraham and his descendants who will become great. God predicts that Abraham and Sarah will have a son to be named Isaac (Yitzchak). God promises a reward to Ishmael that his descendants will become great.
